IN-SIM: Sources in Guam report that the invasion of Tinian was likely successful in driving out the Soviet forces, although when asked for comment, Admiral Thomas Hayward stated “We still have a long way to go. The Marianas Islands will not be safe until we have totally driven the enemy from the region”. The commanding officer of the USN 7th Fleet could not be reached for comment.
The Royal Canadian Navy Aircraft Carrier HMCS Bonaventure has completed her second minor refit period and has begun sea trials. While some have criticized the design, stating that the ship is antiquated and it’s complement of A-4 Skyhawks prove that point. Others have noted that the Australian HMAS Melbourne using a similar configuration, still provides a great deal of utility, having acted as a successful deterrent against Soviet naval forces in the past year. The Bonaventure’s sea trials have been interpreted by some as Canada signaling that it might be ready for independence. Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau could not be reached for comment.
