Intel Update 6/14/23

VAW-129 has new data in preparation for the assault on Saipan

Although the Airbase at Saipan has been largely eliminated, it remains a potential threat. As noted in the maps. There remains a large contingent of A-20 Bombers and MIG-19s. So far, the Soviets have used the MIG-19s and A-20s as CAS aircraft. The MIG 19s do still remain a threat to aircraft. The airfield is defended by an SPAA/ AAA site which was attacked by VF-634 on 6/12/23, but due to the remaining SAM threat, they were unable to obtain a BDA. There was previously an confirmed EWR Radar. Recent attacks have led to suspicion that the Radar was destroyed in crossfire.

Intelligence has decided on a beachhead on the south side of the island, from which to land on the island. No other details were released at this time

Ropucha class

Ropucha

VAW-129 also identified Ropucha Class landing ships. Armed with SA-15s and AAA, they are considered a serious threat. Use caution in range of Saipan.
