DCS 2.9: A troubled launch

In the early days of DCS 2.9, the greatest tragedy will be how badly I want it to be here.

A bizarre, and nonsensical statement I know, but I’m pretty sure it’s a shared sentiment. DCS 2.9 has had a disastrous launch. The chief issue, appears to be that the game now has taken a catastrophic performance hit, and ceases to run properly on most machines. One of those machines in question is Marjorie. Marge is the server that we’ve been running our servers off of. Fun Fact: both systems in the Romsigs Mk 9 Ecosystem were named after my grandparents. My daily driver named after the not hyper social, but hard working craftsman Russell, and the much more social and communicative Marjorie.

So 2.9 is updated, and IMMEDIATELY Marge is flagging errors. She doesn’t have a dedicated GPU, so CPU usage is going through the roof. Furthermore, she flags an error code that I had originally made as an in-joke. 1202. Unfortunately it means the same thing here. Marge is overloaded, and is dropping some tasks. About 10 seconds later, she up and quits. DCS crashes and Marge settles back down. We tried the same thing about 5 times to no avail, and after a couple of days of troubleshooting, I throw in the towell. We are unable to get DCS 2.9 up and running in it’s current state.

Why just us though? ECW is running. DFA is running albeit poorly. Why is CVW-20 down and out? Well, it’s partially my fault. When I constantly brag about our incredible ground breaking technology, instead of ground breaking I should say rule breaking. Some of our favorite tools, like long term persistence and srs compatible radio stations, rely on external code injection. Hell, practically all of DPTST relies on calling code from outside the sim. Which is fine. We haven’t had an issue with it, until this update, where apparently the resource allocation had become so bad, Marge absolutely could not handle it.

It’s tragic though. 2.9, saw the improvement of AI models that we use constantly. There were numerous quality of life improvements. Inclusion of DLSS and FSR is going to be mindblowing at some point. Better Tracks will be great for Cinematic makers. But we can’t play it yet. So what do we do in the meantime? Well coming very soon we hope to have Marge trying out an large dynamic Arma 3 mission, which should help scratch a little bit of the DPTST itch. We’ll also be putting out more info soon on ways you can affect DPTST4, without DCS. As always, we’ll keep you informed and up to date as the information comes out. Thanks again for sticking with us as we try to sort out our issues.
