DEPSIM: Telemonian Day 1 Event

Test time is over. The gloves are coming off for the most advanced simulation experience we’ve put forward yet. An attack on Dubai has led to demands of retaliation by the international community. To that end, it’s time to engage in a Alpha Strike against a series of high priority targets. CVW-20 is to engage these priority targets and knock out their ability to wreak havoc in the region. Of course it’s expected that Iran will push back, but we’re here for the whole fight.

CONTEXTUAL INFORMATION:
Iran has been a global pariah since 1979, but that does not mean that they are weak by any standard. Before his overthrow, the Shah was engaged in a massive modernization and buildup, program that means Iran enjoys a terrifyingly modern force. HOWEVER, post 1979 most of the world stopped supplying Iran. If they didn’t do it for moral reasons, they did it because the checks started to bounce. To quote Jane’s Fighting Ships 1987-1988:

“With the cancellation of foreign orders in 1979 the rapid material advance of this navy was halted. Ships in commission are suffering from two major problems - lack of maintenance and lack of spares. In the past the training of semi-literate conscripts was a major problem. Now, without foreign help, this dilemma must be even greater. Despite this, and improvement in morale has been reported and, as a result, more of this navy must be considered operational than was the case in the last eight years"

If we get to thank the US for Iran’s modern air force, we get to thank the Europeans for their ultra modern navy. French built Kaman class fast attack ships can go toe to toe with our frigates and are a menace to shipping in the strait. Wellington BH.7 Hovercraft provided by the British give the Iranians a significant amphibious capability. While we’re harassing the British, the Battle Class Damavand is going to be a not insignificant threat should we encounter it. For the good stuff though, The Vickers and Vosper built Vosper Mk 5 Frigates have been harassing civilian shipping for some time now. It is time to dismantle some British engineering. Numbers one and two on the hit list are IRIS Alvand and IRIS Alborz. They’re both significant priorities and we absolutely must destroy them. Luckily, they’re both sitting in drydock and will be easy pickings as long as they’re there. Moving on to the Itallians, in 1976 two Cruise liners were sold to be used as floating barracks. Raffaello was hit by an exocet in 1982 and is considered non factor, but Michelangelo is on the list as a significant military target.

Additionally, we have multiple SAM sites that we need removed from the theatre in order to defend our forces, as well as the Bandar Abbas airfield. There is also a threat from Qeshm Island although it is a secondary concern
