General Quarters 24 - Exercise Breakdown

So last year, I took something of an bizarre mental health retreat in the exercise that became known as General Quarters 23. It was an insanely cool experience, if for no other reason than I got to live in the 80’s for 72 hours. That was stupid fun. A nice little bonus of that adventure was the fact that the CVW-20 Twitch channer finally got affiliate. GQ24 is set to be bigger than last year’s by a country mile.

This year with GQ24 we’re taking the proceeds from the exercise and giving them to Navy Marine Corps Relief Society. They are an incredible organization that provides Sailors and Marines with financial services that they desperately need and often times do not have access to. GQ 24 will be a cooperative experience that our participants will try to raise more money than the others. Now, CVW-20 members, squamates, and shipmates will all be competing for the greatest competition of all, to raise money for a good cause.

While the spirit of GQ24 should stay relatively the same across each participant’s fundraising efforts, each participant will be able to take as few or as many rules from the following list

  1. The primary measure for success will be how much money we can collectively raise for the cause. Not how many rules we follow or how many objectives we complete.

  2. Live in the 80’s for 72 hours. 80’s tech. 80’s lifestyle. Immerse yourself in the era as best you can. Really try and live in the world of the Airwing of the 1980’s eve

  3. You’re on deployment. Limit your online communications to a 30 minute window each day (work is excluded, so are streams).

  4. Try to keep up flight ops at least once a day. you don’t have do something significant, just get up in the air, contribute to the campaign, and get home safe.

  5. You have one life. So stay alive

    1. Ejecting safely will not count as a death

  6. Try and work cooperatively with the other participants

  7. Participants must fundraise through Tiltify. CVW-20 will not handle currencies, transactions, or donations. We will only manage the campaign. CVW-20 will assist participants in setting up Tiltify accounts if need be. Participants will be able to keep their accounts and need not permanently associate their accounts with CVW-20.

As can be seen through rule 1, the priority here is charity for a good cause. So with that in mind, We’re excited to say that GQ24 is going to be one of our favorite events we’ve run in a long time. We’re currently shooting for a tentative date of August 9th through August 11th for the exercise itself, however we’ll start fundraising extremely soon, in order to raise as much money as possible before the August 11th deadline. We’re extremely excited to have your support for this great cause, so general quarters, general quarters. All hands man your battle stations.
